Chiang Mai Culture

Buddha statues

It’s lovely to see these Budda statues at every establishment. Each a slightly different style. The people of Chiang Mai constantly have flowers, drinks, food being offered to the statue ( meaning laid on the platform).

Simple streets

The streets are very simple. Lined with restaurants and businesses. Space is used very differently here than the USA. They could have 10 different businesses in the space we have one Mcdonald’s or chick-fil-a. They have just a few car park spaces in front and do not need a giant personal space bubble. The lobbys/sitting areas are smaller and tables closer together. This seems like more of a community and less divided.

Some streets have a nice mountain view, which is a plus.

Markets

Night markets, day markets, weekend markets, they have it all.

Walking

The sidewalks disappear and sometimes they double as a parking space. Several times, a motorbike wants to park right where I am walking so I have to hop out of the way super quick. Always be ready! This was a cultural adjustment but I am coming to enjoy it.
